The Christmas story is about Jesus being born.
God becoming a man.
God reaching down to earth in the person of Jesus.
Immanuel, God with us.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Jesus’ Mission
“As You [the Father] sent Me [Jesus] into the world…” John 17:18
Jesus came with a very specific purpose. He didn’t merely pass through or stop by. He was sent.
“I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.” John 17:4
He had a purpose.
A calling.
A mission.
His mission? To bring us to the Father.
“O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I [Jesus] know you, and these know that you have sent Me. I made known to them Your Name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:25-26
Through His actions, teaching, and substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, He showed, taught, and ultimately made it possible to not only know about God, but to know God personally.
Our Mission
Just as Jesus was sent, so are we.
“As You [the Father] sent Me [Jesus] into the world, so I have sent them [us] into the world.” John 17:18
We are called to be sent, like Jesus was, to the rest of the world.
We are called to bring others to the Father through Jesus by our actions, teaching, and sacrifice.
I pray you enjoy this Christmas season, and celebrating Jesus’ birth with friends and family. But don’t let it stop there. Jesus didn’t stay a baby. He grew into a man on a mission, and He desires us to follow Him on that mission.
